Interested in finding out more about telehealth? Travel long distances providing clinical services across the Grampians region and beyond? Do you have patients referred for clinical services from across the Grampians region?

Grampians Rural Health Alliance has extensive experience in the establishment and implementation of telehealth services within the public health system and is now offering a TeleHealth Advisory Service for GPs, Specialists and Aged Care facilities across the Grampians region.

What is telehealth?

TeleHealth is a way of providing clinical services to patients based in rural and remote areas of the region using videoconferencing. From 1 July 2011, Medicare Australia has introduced a telehealth initiatives which will support the provision of clinical consultation services for patients in rural and remote areas using videoconferencing. There are also telehealth incentives for eligible practitioners and aged care services who enable patients to participate in a video consultation with a specialist, consultant physician or consultant psychiatrist.

There are many ways of implementing a telehealth consultation and there are many technical details to sort through in order to be able to implement an effective telehealth consultation service for your practice. The experienced telehealth consultants at Grampians Rural Health Alliance can assist you in sorting through the technical jargon to work out what level of equipment is necessary for your service.

While the government have released a document (www.mbsonline.gov.au) which aims to provide some guidance for those interested in becoming ready to participate in the delivery of health services via telehealth, there is much to be confused about in making the decisions about the type of technology which will effectively support the service you wish to offer.

The service being developed by the telehealth experts at Grampians Rural Health Alliance is aimed to:

  • identify the technology requirements for your practice,
  • work with you to identify the work practice changes required,
  • to train and support both you and your staff to implement the telehealth services; as well as;
  • provide ongoing assistance and support to provide an ongoing telehealth service to your patients.
