In June 2007 GRHANet received from the Department of Broadband, Communication and the Digital Economy a grant under the Clever Networks Innovative Service Delivery program that will enable the GRHANet network to move to another level of operation.
Clever Health will deliver increased levels of patient care by linking the Emergency/Urgent Care and Maternity patients in the region with high quality expertise via wireless and video conference technology and associated specialist equipment.
Underpinned by wireless technology, Clever Health will also increase skills and professional development opportunities for health professionals in the region by developing collaborative and innovative ways of providing flexible learning, peer support and advice mechanisms. Last, but not least, this project will enable broader community health education and access to health information through the more effective use of broadband technologies.
The proposed facilities will be able to operate at the point of care by being integrated into the existing GRHANet high quality regional telecommunications network and through the innovative use of local and regional wireless gateways. GRHANet in turn integrates into the statewide health telecommunications network and this project will also integrate it into the national tertiary education and research network by establishing a link with the University of Ballarat.
